Cyril Divjinastražar crystal | mateus | cst
One of the few protectors of a remote village of Viera tucked in the southernmost reaches of Thanalan, born from a truce between the villagers and the Brotherhood of Ash, bound by duty to his people and spurred by curiosity to explore Eorzea while offering his services as a sellsword.

The inheritor of fulgent warmth, blessed by the brilliance of the sun.
vefaraþorp
.

Pronounced "veh-var-ah-thorp", roughly translated to 'Weavers' Village' from traditional Vieran.
✧
language
The people of the village are primarily fluent in Bozjan to speak, read, and write. The elders teach spoken Vieran and many can understand it with decent proficiency, though writing in it is extremely rare. Some members of the village speak the common Eorzean tongue to better communicate with outside settlements, but with their isolated location, most do not learn it until their adult lives if they learn it at all.
people
Having left their original home of Dalmasca, a wandering group of nomads known for their strength in textiles and believing themselves ill-suited to battle emigrated to Bozja, lived there for a time, and eventually settled in southern Thanalan. The generations and centuries that have passed have found Hyuran Highlanders, Lupin, and Miqo'te Keepers of the Sun as welcome members of the family, imparting tails, sharper teeth, and larger constitutions than the average Viera.
✧
trade
Aptly named, the people of the village weave and dye textiles, create intricate jewelry, and tend to gardens or mine to facilitate both of these industries.Looms are common coming of age gifts and are often received with great honor, as they are usually paired with the opportunity to learn Eorzean and a promise to see the outside world.Often, the goods are bartered for in Forgotten Springs with the U Tribe, though it's not unheard of for the traders to venture up to Little Ala Mhigo. Some go further out and can be found in Ul'dah from time to time. More adventurous sorts even make it as far as Limsa Lominsa, though a member of the village has not been sighted outside of Thanalan in many, many years.
customs
Since textiles and jewelry are the major exports, beauty and grooming are held in high regard - being in the desert heat and working is no excuse for not looking your best! One can expect daily baths with scented oils, beads, gold, and jewelry woven into long, well-kempt hair, and nails kept long and adorned with color. Tattoos are also common, but they are granted as a rite of passage and must be earned. There are biannual solstice festivals; the summer solstice is a sennight reprieve from work while the winter solstice is a celebration of coming of age for the village youth. If none have come of age since the last winter, the time is allotted to celebrate new additions to the family (births or marriages).
✧
location
On the southernmost point of the Sagolii Desert, past the Forgotten Springs, above Cape Deadwind, the village is often referred to those who know of it as Thanalan's hidden jewel. It is a small settlement with a population never exceeding two hundred, holding a handful of large lodgings built of brick and clay, made to fit families and extended families as large as thirty people strong.
names
Forenames for women are typically gifted in Vieran tradition, named for the maternal great-grandmother. For men, they are often Bozjan. There is little distinction between Rava and Veena clans and the people do not name themselves after the village. Rather, they introduce themselves by their forename and the surname of their sire. The sire's forename is gifted as a patronymic second name, while the carrier's forename is attached as the third, an indication of whether the person is a son or daughter.

personality: Sweet, charitable, and with a love for his family that's nearly overbearing, Cyril affords the same courtesy to strangers that he does to long-time friends. He considers himself outgoing and would be honored to know those he's grown up with consider him a pillar to the settlement.Often, he will venture further outside of the village to lend his blade to whoever needs it, not one to stand by and suffer injustices, particularly none in the face of authority.

the foundation

When the Brotherhood of Ash came across the people of Vefaraþorp, the Vieran familes proved themselves as neutral parties, settling as far away from them as possible. As such, the village and the Brotherhood entered a truce, one that has persisted for decades.Freyja Atoel, a merchant among the villagers, boldly approached the Brotherhood for trade upon coming of age. Her heart was captured by a priest of the Brotherhood, a love that was soon found mutual; Cyril's arrival was celebrated the next winter solstice.Trained in animal husbandry and the blade, Cyril lived between the brotherhood and his mother's village, often spending half the year between either side until his father's passing. He pledged himself to become a warder for the village, a position he shares with six other men. He is their oldest and is their de factor leader, often training any would-be warders. When Cyril reached his sixties, he was encouraged to travel. While he usually doesn't venture farther than Ul'dah, he considers Costa del Sol or the lush forests of the Black Shroud to be some of his favorite places to visit. Not wanting to travel with the village's coffers and charity as his only support, he offers his services as a blade for hire. Protecting merchant caravans seems to be the most consistent work wherever he goes.

hooks
.

"I don't really need thanks or a feast or anything like that. Just seeing everybody safe's more than enough for me."
— for hire
Do you have anything that needs protecting? Monsters or beast that need to meet a blade? He's more than happy to work for you.
— bozjan at heart
Though he hasn't set foot in Bozja himself, Cyril always loves meeting other people who are from the region - not only is it nice to have people to talk to in a language he knows better, but he relishes in the unique insight and hearing the stories of the survivors of the southern front. You'll have his full attention.
— adventure
There are so many places Cyril hasn't seen: Othard, Ilsabard, Sharlayan, and there are surely more places he hasn't ever heard of. If one is in need of a traveling companion, he'd love to accompany you - so long as he can bring home souvenirs.
— lost in the city
He's hard to miss if you meet him in Ul'dah. Eye contact is enough of an invitation to chat for him.
— a small world.
He's far from the only person to venture out from his home village, but he might not be the most prolific. Maybe you know his cousin, the would-be sailor?
— anything else
This character is flexible, open to all kinds of RP (dark, mature, etc) so long as both character and writer are 21+. If there's a hook that isn't listed that works out better for your character, let me know and we can work something out together.
